This was an exciting adventure from beginning to end. We took Skully's 1970 VW Bus to Ft. Lauderdale. It was about 30 degrees when we left and of course no heat. We could see our breath! We made decent time considering we could only go 65 mph. We had almost made it there when the bus started stalling out. The motor cut out in a toll booth. We pushed the bus to a start and jumped in. Somehow we managed to make it to the convention center and get all of our stuff unloaded. The bus started right up and gave us a false sense of security. We were off to find the home of a friend who was going to let us camp at his house. Just as we were getting to the exit the bus cuts out again. Now we have all of the girls and our friend Doug pushing the bus down the interstate to the off ramp. We all pushed that bus about a 1/2 mile into a Denny's parking lot. The girls went on to drop off the first load of people at the friend's house. With little deliberation we decided to stay at the hotel conveniently located next to the Denny's. The next day went great. Skully found a guy who worked on VWs and he fixed the bus in no time and only charged him $20! We went on to do a lot of tattoos that day. We also had several photo shoots done. Even one with the bus. The next day also went pretty well. Again busy doing tattoos all day. Another photo shoot for the shop and we were even on Telemundo. Day three the bus was running fine and we were on our way home. The further north we got the colder it got. Someone suggested we get a small ceramic heater for the bus. As soon as we plugged that little sucker in it blew out something. We were stalling out again. This time just three of us to push but we were able to get it started again. The bus stalled out one last time just as we pulled into our driveway. We made it home safely and with quite the interesting story to tell as well. |
